Country Raisin Gingersnaps

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups flour
1 T salt
1/2 T cinnamon
1 1/2 cups raisins
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 T soda
1 T ginger
1/4 T cloves

Combine shortening, sugar, egg and molasses.  Cream well.  Sift together dry ingredients and add to mixture. Add raisins, then chill dough.  Shape into balls, roll in sugar and bake 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees.
